The term “live edge” when used with furniture refers to the technique of incorporating the natural edge of the tree on the edges of table tops and on other pieces of wood furniture. Rather than cutting off the edges of boards to make them square and straight, the natural outside edge of the board is left intact. In most cases manufacturers remove the bark (which will eventually dry out and fall off anyway) and lightly sand the edge to make it smooth and prevent it from snagging clothing.
